Maryam Nawaz, the Senior Vice President of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), claimed that only her party could combat the rising inflation in Pakistan, which is making it difficult for the poor segments of society to afford basic necessities. She made these remarks while chairing a party meeting in Faisalabad, where the organisational structure of the party was reviewed, and recommendations for enhancing cooperation among PML-N wings were discussed.
According to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), the weekly inflation measured by the Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI) recorded a rise of 1.37% until March 9, with major increases observed in the prices of food items. The weekly inflation rate in Pakistan has surged to 42.27% on an annual basis during the outgoing week, which is the highest weekly year-on-year number since September last year. This has put a strain on the poor segments of society who are struggling to afford basic necessities.
Maryam Nawaz lamented the unethical social media practices and urged PML-N workers to play their role in combating such trends. She called on the social media wing of PML-N to take up the responsibility to end the hatred in society. She reiterated her demand for equal standards of justice in the country.
Pakistan is implementing conditions laid forth by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to revive the stalled loan programme, which has contributed to the rising inflation in the country. Maryam Nawaz believes that the PML-N is the only party that can reduce inflation and put the country on the road to prosperity.
