In an intelligence-based operation (IBO) conducted in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s North Waziristan district, six terrorists were killed, and eight others were injured, according to the military’s media wing, ISPR. The operation was initiated based on reported terrorist presence in the Mir Ali area of the district.
During the operation, a fierce exchange of fire occurred between military troops and militants, resulting in the death of six terrorists and the injury of eight others. Sepoy Abdul Hakeem, 33, displayed valor during the exchange and sacrificed his life.
The military also recovered weapons and ammunition from the deceased terrorists who had been actively involved in terrorist activities against security forces and the indiscriminate targeting of innocent civilians. The area is currently undergoing sanitization to eliminate any remaining terrorists.
The recent surge in terrorist activities in Pakistan, particularly in KP and Balochistan, follows the termination of the ceasefire between the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan and the government in November of the previous year. The country has experienced an increase in militant attacks, with the highest number of monthly strikes in nearly nine years reported in August, according to data from the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS).
In July, there was a significant loss of life as 12 soldiers from the Pakistan Army were martyred in separate military operations in Balochistan’s Zhob and Sui areas, marking the highest single-day death toll from terrorist attacks in the year. Previously, in February 2022, 10 personnel lost their lives in a ‘fire raid’ in Balochistan’s Kech district.
The local residents of the area have expressed their support for the operation and their commitment to eradicating the menace of terrorism.
